Victor Vekselberg, the president of “Skolkovo”, highly appreciates potential of GTLD .SKOLKOVO

A prospective delegation of yet another top level domain .skolkovo to Russia stirs a great interest in the Internet community. What the new domain is for and how the Skolkovo Foundation and the Coordination Center for ccTLD .RU are going to build their partnership was discussed at the panel “Expansion of the Global and Russian Domain Space” in the frame of the RIF+KIB conference, which took place on 20 April 2011.

The CC’s director, Andrey Kolesnikov, signed a MoU between the Coordination Center and the Skolkovo Foundation and right on the spot. The MoU suggests that the Coordination Center, which has an extensive first-hand experience in registration of the new domain zone .РФ, will provide assistance and support in registration and a subsequent development of the new top level domain .skolkovo.

The Skolkovo Foundation pays a great attention to the future registration of its own domain zone. “Domain zone .skolkovo is going to give us greater stability, flexibility and functionality”, - asserts Mr. Victor Vekselberg, the President of the Skolkovo Foundation in his interview to the TV channel “Russia Today”. The new domain can be a focal point for all the Foundation’s innovative and educational projects.”
Mr. Vekselberg tags the use of the Internet and Skolkovo‘s own domain zone as a critical tool for shaping the information and communication environment for communicating with all stakeholders engaged in the project: businesses, state officials, scientists and students. In addition, the new domain zone should ensure a more active promotion of new innovative products to be created in Skolkovo.

“We see this as an opportunity for constructing a new format of communication between different stakeholders engaged in our innovative process. While the off-line dialogue is also necessary, virtual communication is a modern global trend nonetheless,” – argued Mr.  Vekselberg
